What is embroidery digitizing

What are vector graphics?

Vector files are usually used for printing and digitizing reason being they provide a crisper image regardless of the size of the image. This implies that level of detail is not missed out even on small graphics or prints.

Whereas, raster files are represented by dots which leads to poor quality designs.

This limitation is easily overcome by using vector graphics which are basically 2-dimensional images with lines and curves to form shapes. Raster file images usually use formats such as JPEG, PNG and GIF which consist of pixels representing different colors. Resizing is another limitation of using a raster file since it loses its quality by being blurry.

For these reasons, there is a need to convert the raster files into vector files and the process is also referred to as vectorization sometimes.Nowadays, there are various small scale and startup companies offering professional services for raster to vector conversion.

As opposed to raster files, vector files consists of flexible images that can be easily rescaled to its original quality of embroidery. Vector files can be simply resized based on the need of embroidery designs. A simple way for raster to vector conversion is through using Adobe Illustrator.
